Wednesday Club Information for Volunteers
Video Training
This is a training video for the old version of Wednesday Club. Much of the training is the same, however make sure to read through our volunteering document to understand the differences.
Front of House
The Front of House team will be a group of 4-5 people who will work in the main hall area, visible to the cooking team via a hatch. Tasks will be allocated to member on the morning, these will include but are not limited to:
Setting up the drinks station: This is where we offer tea, coffee, soft drinks, fruits, and biscuits.
Preparing snacks for the tables: cut cakes, butter bread etc.
Set the tables: With glasses, condiments.
Nominate two people who will be responsible for managing the shower rota once the club is open. The shower rooms need to be clean when we leave the venue.
Ensuring that the space is tidy and welcoming for when the members enter.
Chatting with members, serving drinks, and keeping an eye on the cleanliness of the café whilst the club is in session, clearing up where necessary and taking items into the kitchen to be washed.
Volunteers are invited to eat soup/sandwiches and spend time socialising with our members. They will be invited to eat once all members have been served. All dietary requirements are catered for.
Once members have finished eating, your role will be to help clear the tables/support with washing up/use cleaning products that the C4WS Member of Staff will show you to help ensure that the space is left as clean as possible as we need to vacate by 1:30pm. This will include ensuring the cleanliness of the main hall and shower facilities.
Cooking Team
Our members know that a different cooking team is coming each week, and it is a focal point of the day. You will be introduced to Wednesday Club attendees before the soup and sandwiches are served.
We ask that your cooking team is made up of a maximum of 5 volunteers, with a nominated team leader.
This team will work together in the onsite kitchen, which is visible to the members via a hatch.
There are masks, gloves, aprons available for all the team to wear and there are plenty of cleaning materials and hand sanitizers. We ask everyone to follow the necessary guidelines to keep everyone safe and well. These are as follows:
On arrival, all members of the volunteer team must sign in on the sheet provided.
The cooking team only is required to wear aprons; and gloves are also available.
The First Aid kit is in the kitchen.
No food should be left in the kitchen at the end of Wednesday Club. Please speak to one of the staff if you have any such food.
Do not wash raw meat.
Cleaner / sanitizer is to be used on all food preparation surfaces.
To prevent cross-contamination please use the appropriate chopping boards:
Red – raw meat
Green – salad, fruit, and vegetables
White – bread and dairy
For us to be able to cater for any allergens, please set aside one set of each food packaging and labeling so that we can check all ingredients at any point.
Currently we ask the cooking team to make soup for a total of 55 made up of 40 members, plus our team of 10 staff and volunteers – and of course yourselves! There should be a mixture of meat and vegetarian sandwich options, and vegetarian soup.
