30% of our guests in our 2017/18 shelter did not speak English as their first language. Lack of English skills creates low confidence in people and hampers people’s chances of securing vital employment, training and education.

Our English classes are free of charge, run by a volunteer English teacher and each student is given their own study materials, paid for travel expenses and the chance to vastly improve their English skills which can make a world of difference to one’s situation.

We also ran one-to-one English Classes for the first time this season, utilising the skills of our incredible volunteers to better assist our guests with their needs.
